Tillich, Paul (Johannes)
(20 ago. 1886, Starzeddel, Brandeburgo, Alemania– 22 oct. 1965, Chicago, Ill., EE.UU.).

Teólogo protestante estadounidense de origen alemán. Estudió en Berlín, Tubinga y Halle y fue capellán en el ejército alemán durante la primera guerra mundial. Enseñó sucesivamente en Marburgo, Dresde y Francfort-del-Meno. En 1933 la arremetida nazi lo indujo a emigrar a EE.UU. Con la ayuda de Reinhold Niebuhr integró el cuerpo docente del Union Theological Seminary de Nueva York. Fue respetado por su prédica lúcida y su Teología sistemática, 3 vol. (1951–63). En 1955 se incorporó a la Universidad de Harvard y a la de Chicago en 1962. Su sistema teológico fue una inusitada combinación de elementos bíblicos, existencialistas y metafísicos, e intentó comunicar una comprensión de Dios independiente de la revelación o de la ciencia. Otras obras de su autoría son El valor de ser (1952) y Dinámicas de la fe (1957).
